Independent senatorial candidate Panfilo “Ping” M. Lacson has pledged his support for aspiring seafarers, advocating for legislation to make their education and training more affordable.

During the Konsultahang Bayan held in Cebu City on April 28, 2025, Lacson highlighted the significant contributions of seafarers to the Philippine economy, noting that they remitted approximately $6.94 billion in 2024 alone. However, he expressed concern over the increasingly prohibitive costs of maritime education.

“Their contribution to the Philippine economy cannot be discounted,” Lacson stated. “We must help them because their tuition and training fees have become so prohibitive.”
