International Master Kim Steven Yap battled to a draw with Michael Pinar in the ninth and final round but that was all he needed to reign supreme in the Cebu Executives and Professionals Chess Association (CEPCA) President's Cup 2025 last Sunday, May 25, at the Cebu Chess Club in Robinsons Galleria Cebu.

Yap rolled past Manuel Zosimo Ozoa, Romualdo "Jojo" Moralla, Joel Pacuribot, Arje Villarin, National Master Rogelio Enriquez Jr., John Dave Lavandero, Richard Natividad, and Ronald Ganzon before figuring in a standoff with Pinar.
Behind his nearly flawless performance, Yap tallied the highest output of 8.5 points to take home the P10,000 champion's purse.
