The Department of Labor and Employment-7 (DOLE-7) has ordered intensified Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) inspections across Central Visayas to ensure workplace safety, especially during earthquakes and other calamities.

DOLE-7 regional director Roy Buenafe made the directive following reports that some companies continued to compel employees to report for work despite the dangers posed by recent seismic activities in northern Cebu.

Buenafe stressed that earthquakes constitute a “presumptive imminent danger”, and only qualified authorities with proper licenses and training are allowed to declare buildings and structures safe for occupancy.

“Clearance must come from the proper government agency not just anyone without the needed authority,” he emphasized.
