Cebu City intensifies anti-mendicancy drive

Cebu City has intensified its campaign against mendicancy, conducting daily operations that continue even during the holidays to apprehend individuals caught begging or giving alms in public spaces.

The Cebu City Anti-Mendicancy Office (CCAMO), acting under the directive of Mayor Nestor D. Archival, said the strict enforcement of City Ordinance No. 1631 is not merely about discipline but also about protecting children and restoring dignity to families.

Ahead of Christmas Day, the city government reinforced its campaign through a coordination meeting among CCAMO, the Office of Muslim Affairs and Indigenous Cultural Communities (OMAICC), and leaders of the Badjao community.

“Lig-on ang panaghiusa sa OMAICC, partner agencies, ug komunidad aron mapadayon nato ang disiplina, kaluwasan, ug dignidad sa atong dakbayan,” Mayor Archival said in a post.

The mayor personally led the discussions, underscoring the importance of protection, dignity, and proper intervention in addressing street mendicancy.
