Book exec lauds CH for 24-hr library

Jacqueline Ng, co-founder of the globally renowned Big Bad Wolf Book Sale, commended the Cebu City government's move to reopen its public library for 24/7 operations, calling it “amazing,” while also noting the operational challenges such a setup entails.

Speaking in a recent interview, Ng said the idea of a public library that’s open round-the-clock is commendable, particularly because it serves people who work nontraditional hours or can only access resources after regular office schedules.

“I think that’s amazing because we don’t forget that there are people who don’t operate on normal hours. If the library is also open during office hours only, it doesn’t make sense. When we're free, the library is closed,” Ng said.

Ng, a longtime advocate for public access to reading and literacy, emphasized that while the 24/7 library model is ideal in theory, its feasibility depends on the demographic, location, and available resources of each local government unit (LGU).

Ng added that the Cebu City government deserves recognition for taking on such a bold initiative, especially at a time when promoting literacy and reading culture remained a challenge in the digital age.
