Baricuatro, Soco back DILG's anti-epal rule

The two highest ranking officials of Cebu Province have expressed their full support of the anti-epal directive of the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG), which banned public officials' faces and names on government projects.

Governor Pamela Baricuatro said adhering to the directive would not pose any issue for her, for the reason that she has never favored putting officials' faces or names on government projects.

"They have to follow what's the regulation of the national agency. It won't be a problem with me because I've never been one who supports the 'epal' thing — putting their faces on the projects," the governor said.

Vice Governor Glenn Anthony Soco echoed the same position, emphasizing that projects funded by government money should not be treated as personal property of any official.

"By all means, these are not private funds nga gigamit sa pagpatuman sa mga projects, these are public funds," Soco said

Soco explained that while public officials also have the responsibility to inform constituents about their work, there should be clear limits to avoid the impression of personal ownership over government initiatives.
