8 areas under Signal No. 3 as 'Uwan' rapidly intensifies

More areas in Luzon and Visayas have been placed under wind signals as Typhoon Uwan (international name: Fung-Wong) rapidly intensified over the Philippine Sea, state weather bureau PAGASA reported on Saturday morning, November 8.

As of 10 a.m., Uwan was spotted 680 kilometers east of Borongan City, Eastern Samar, moving westward at 35 kilometers per hour.
Uwan is carrying peak winds of 140 kph near the center, with gusts reaching up to 170 kph and a central pressure of 965 hPa.
Its strong to typhoon-force winds extend up to 780 kilometers from the center.
Heavy rains are expected in affected areas, with risks of flooding and landslides in low-lying and mountainous regions. PAGASA said that the highest wind alert that may be issued is Signal No. 5.
