2TinCans brings fashion, womanhood with 'Love, Loss, and What I Wore'

We've all heard a wide range of remarks from our mothers about our looks: "You'd look so pretty if you lost weight," "My beautiful baby is all grown up now," "Take that off! You look like a slut," "Just looking at you, I am going to cry", and many more.
These all-too-familiar comments are dramatized through one of the monologues in "Love, Loss, and What I Wore", a play written by Nora and Delia Ephron that premiered in 2008, adapted from a 1995 novel of the same name by Ilene Beckerman. 2TinCans Philippines will stage its Cebu run this August 16 and 17, 8 pm at Marco Polo Plaza Cebu.
"I swear, my mom has told me at least two of these lines," said Charlene Virlouvet at a press conference, July 30 at Marco Polo. She considers the monologue to be one of her favorites in the play.
"Love, Loss, and What I Wore" portrays different perspectives on womanhood, with each character expressing sentimental value over an article of clothing, a bag, or shoes that tells a compelling story about what it means to be a woman.
"My direction here is based on truth. The way we are staging this is intimate and immersive. It is going to look like a living room that gives this simple, truthful, and warm vibe," said Virlouvet, who is making her directorial debut for a full-length play through the Cebu staging.
The Ephron sisters are best known for their Hollywood romantic comedies that helped define the genre with its distinct feminine voice.
The late Nora Ephron wrote “When Harry Met Sally...” and “Sleepless in Seattle”, both starring Meg Ryan, while Delia, now 81, penned the screenplay of the coming-of-age dramedy “The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants”. Together, they co-wrote “You’ve Got Mail” that starred Ryan, and the 2005 film adaptation of the classic sitcom “Bewitched”, starring Nicole Kidman.
Virlouvet said the script of “Love, Loss, and What I Wore” reflects the signature screenwriting style of the Ephron sisters.
