PCMC enforces four-bin waste segregation
The Free Press Journal
|February 05, 2026
In a major step towards scientific and sustainable waste management, the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) has introduced a four-way waste segregation system for households, replacing the earlier two-bin practice.
Residents are now required to separate daily waste into dry, wet, sanitary and hazardous categories, failing which penalties will be imposed.
The directive, issued on Friday, Jan 30, is being implemented across all city wards under the supervision of the Health Department of PCMC. Officials said the initiative is being supported by large-scale awareness campaigns through social media, banners, door-to-door outreach, public programmes and pamphlet distribution, with assistance from nongovernmental organisations.
