Mahayuti sweeps Panvel, storms back to power with brute majority

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led alliance has registered a decisive victory in the Panvel Municipal Corporation elections, reinforcing its political dominance in the rapidly growing satellite city of Mumbai.

With a resounding mandate, the alliance is set to form the civic administration for a second consecutive term.

Out of the total 78 seats, the BJP alone won 55 seats, while the BJP-alliance collectively secured 59 seats, including six councillors elected unopposed. The alliance won 53 seats through direct contests, comfortably crossing the majority mark and staking a strong claim to the Mayor’s post.

Polling for the remaining 71 seats was held on Thursday after six Mahayuti candidates and one independent candidate were elected unopposed prior to voting.
