The state government plans to draft its own rules aligning with central law, but ensuring workers' welfare
-
Minister for Labour and Skills, V. Sivankutty, affirmed the state government will not adopt any policy stance that undermines workers' rights while implementing the newly notified labour codes. Speaking at a press conference in Thiruvananthapuram, the minister said full support will be given to the reforms only if they enhance worker welfare rather than weaken labour relations.
The four labour codes notified at the national level aim to consolidate existing legislation and introduce uniform national standards covering wages, social security, and compliance procedures. Provisions include appointment mandatory letters for all employees, statutory minimum wages, coverage of gig and platform workers, and a single-licence framework for employers.
