Indian sports plunged into a state of shock when one of its brightest shining stars over the last three decades, shooting legend Jaspal Rana, passed away at the age of 49 due to cardiac related complications.

- Haridev Pushparaj

The 1994 Asian Games gold medallist went on to represent India in the 1996 Atlanta Olympics and became a dominant force in pistol shooting in the 1990s and 2000s.

One of India’s finest pistol shooters had made a very successful transition into coaching and in recent years was known more as the famous coach of young shooting sensation Manu Bhaker, who won double Olympic medals at Paris Olympics in 2024.

Rana is survived by his wife Reena Rana, daughter Devanshi and son Yuvraj, father Narayan Singh Rana, and his two siblings, Sushma Singh and Subhash Rana.

The legend recently underwent a medical procedure after falling ill during the Indian contingent’s return flight from the ISSF World Cup in Munich.
