Vetal Tekdi birding marathon from Nov 5

The Vetal Tekdi Birding Marathon, organised by the Vetal Tekdi Bachao Kruti Samiti (VTBKS), will be held from Nov 5 to 12 in Pune.

Now in its third year, the event seeks to raise awareness about the rich birdlife of the Vetal Tekdi hill complex.

This year’s marathon coincides with Pakshi Saptah, observed across Maharashtra in remembrance of noted ornithologists Salim Ali and Maruti Chitampalli. During the week-long event, birders from across the city will embark on birding trails on the hill and document their sightings on eBird, a citizen science platform. Entries will be evaluated for accuracy and quality before participants are awarded the title of Vetal Tekdi Birding Champion in both individual and team categories.
