Hooda named LoP of Haryana assembly, Rao made state chief
The Free Press Journal - Mumbai
|October 01, 2025
Breaking a yearlong deadlock in Haryana Congress, the party high command on Monday night named former two-time chief minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda as the Congress Legislature Party (CLP) leader in the state assembly and former minister Rao Narender Singh, as the new state party president.
However, prominent Ahir leader, Capt Ajay Singh Yadav, has questioned Rao's appointment as party chief.
While Hooda,78, is a Jat leader, the party high command has attempted to strike a balance in the state party unit by appointing Rao, 61, who belongs to OBC and represents Yadav or Ahir.
It was also said that it is the first time that an OBC leader has been appointed as state chief as earlier mainly Dalit leaders were appointed on the said post.
