UP tops India in fiscal discipline and capital spending, says CAG

Uttar Pradesh has emerged as a national leader in fiscal discipline and development-oriented spending, according to the latest State Finance Accounts 2022-23 released by the Comptroller and Auditor General of India (CAG).

The report positions Uttar Pradesh as the top-performing state in capital expenditure among all 28 states, highlighting its efficient financial management and prudent allocation of borrowed funds.

The state recorded a capital expenditure of 21,03,237 crore in FY 2022-23, the highest in the country, amounting to 210.68% of its net public debt receipts. The data reflects that every rupee of borrowed money was channelled into capital creation and infrastructure development, establishing Uttar Pradesh as a model of fiscal responsibility.
