Residents demand depot relocation
The Free Press Journal - Indore
|February 16, 2026
Residents living around the Hadapsar garbage depot have demanded that the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) shift the facility from the densely populated area, alleging that foul stench and smoke have turned daily life into a health hazard.
People from St Patrick’s Town, Sopan Baug, Uday Baug, BT Kawade Road and Magarpatta said the problem has persisted for years and is now affecting their health. They met PMC Commissioner Naval Kishore Ram on Friday and sought a permanent solution.
From morning till night, the air around the depot is filled with a foul smell and thick smoke, residents said. Windows remain shut throughout the day, children suffer from constant coughing, and elderly residents avoid stepping out for fear of illness.
