Bar to cover commercial signages, displays in cinema halls, musical shows, public events; Tamil pride cited

- HD Bureau

Tamil Nadu’s government will table a bill in the legislative assembly to ban Hindi--language hoardings, boards, films and songs within the state, officials said.

An emergency meeting of legal experts was convened last night to finalise constitutional safeguards in the proposed legislation.

The draft bill seeks to prohibit public display of Hindi content across commercial signage, cinema halls and musical broadcasts inside the state. Officials insist the measure is not an “anti-Hindi” policy but is intended to safeguard Tamil identity against the perceived imposition of Hindi. The government maintains the text will adhere to constitutional principles.
