BJP MP demands AFSPA in border districts as Hindus targeted
Even as skeletal remains of burnt vehicles and other public damages tell the story of violence that engulfed parts of Murshidabad district in West Bengal during protests against the Waqf (Amendment) Act, BJP Lok Sabha MP Jyotirmay Singh Mahato demanded the affected border districts be declared as "disturbed areas" under AFSPA.
In a letter to Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Mahato said districts like Murshidabad, Malda, Nadia and South 24 Parganas have seen repeated attacks on the Hindu community.
He claimed that over 86 Hindu homes and shops were looted and destroyed in Murshidabad, and civilians, including Hargobindo Das and his son, were killed.
