US Supreme Court to Weigh Legality of Obamacare Preventive Care Provision

The U.S. Supreme Court is scheduled to hear arguments on Monday regarding the legality of a key provision within the Affordable Care Act (ACA), commonly known as Obamacare.

This provision ensures that health insurance plans cover a range of preventive medical services, such as cancer screenings, at no cost to patients.

The case arises from a federal government appeal against a lower court ruling. The lower court determined that the U.S. Preventive Services Task Force (USPSTF), a body crucial under Obamacare for deciding which preventive services are covered, is unconstitutionally structured. The 16 members of the USPSTF are appointed by the U.S. Secretary of Health and Human Services (HHS) without requiring confirmation by the Senate.
