Punjab Aims to Rake in Rs 11,200 Cr from Excise on Liquor

Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann-chaired Punjab Cabinet has approved the Excise Policy for 2025-26, setting a revenue target of 11,200 crore from duties. Finance Minister Harpal Cheema stated that this year liquor vends will be allocated through e-tendering.

The government has also introduced several changes in birth and death registration rules.

As per the new amendments, if a child's birth is not registered within a year, the family will no longer need to approach the court for approval. Instead, they can complete the process through the Deputy Commissioner's office. Additionally, if a person dies due to an illness, doctors will now be required to mention the cause of death in the death certificate.
