Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Telangana State President N. Ramchander Rao on Wednesday accused the Congress party of deliberately creating unnecessary political controversy over the alleged change in the name of the MGNREGA scheme, asserting that the rural employment programme has neither been scrapped nor weakened.

- RAJ KIRAN BATHULA

Addressing the media in Hyderabad, Ramchander Rao clarified that the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA) continues to remain in force and urged the public not to fall prey to what he termed “false propaganda” by the Congress. He said the Union government, in line with the vision of Viksit Bharat-2047, has introduced the “Viksit Bharat - Guarantee for Employment and Livelihood Mission (Rural)-2025”, inspired by Mahatma Gandhi's concept of Gram Swaraj and the Indian civilisational ideal of Ram Rajya.

"If the Congress truly cares about MGNREGA, it should explain how much it actually spent during its 10 years in power,” Rao said.
