Kolkata Rape: Remarks in TMC Stir Row; Kalyan Retorts Mahua

A day after Trinamool Congress MP Kalyan Banerjee's controversial remark on the gang rape of a law student, senior party leader and MLA Madan Mitra said that the incident would not have happened had the student taken a couple of friends with her or informed people before going there.
TMC MP Mahua Moitra, one of the most vocal women politicians, also took to X to condemn her party colleagues' statements and said misogyny in India cuts across party lines.
"What differentiates the Trinamool Congress is that we condemn these disgusting comments no matter who makes them," she said.
Her remarks, however, have drawn a sharp retort from Banerjee who said the Krishnanagar MP is against all women leaders of her constituency.
