FENG SHUI VS VASTU: PATHS TO HARMONIOUS LIVING

This article explores the key differences and similarities between Feng Shui and Vastu Shastra, helping you understand which may suit your personal or professional space better.

ORIGINS AND HISTORICAL BACKGROUND

Feng Shui (pronounced fung shway) originated in ancient China more than 3,000 years ago. The term means "wind" (feng) and "water" (shui), symbolizing the flow of energy or Qi (Chi) through the environment. Feng Shui is deeply rooted in Taoist philosophy and Chinese cosmology, particularly the concepts of Yin-Yang and the Five Elements (Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal, Water).

Vastu Shastra, on the other hand, is an ancient Indian science of architecture that dates back over 5,000 years. "Vastu" means dwelling or habitat, and "Shastra" means science. It is derived from ancient Vedic texts and integrates natural elements, planetary influences, and cosmic energies. Vastu is considered a part of the broader science of astrology and spirituality.

PHILOSOPHY AND ENERGY CONCEPTS

The core philosophy of Feng Shui revolves around balancing Qi, the life-force energy that flows through all living things and spaces. It emphasizes allowing energy to flow freely through a home or building to promote health, wealth, and happiness. Tools like the Bagua Map (energy map) and compass directions are used to analyze spaces.
