The Congress party is facing a critical moment and needs to rethink its strategies if it hopes to regain political relevance. If it continues focusing on caste politics, particularly the backward classes, the party could be heading towards an existential crisis. Caste-based politics cannot counter the influence of Hindutva and nationalism. In the 1990s, former Prime Minister V.P. Singh attempted to leverage the reservation issue to gain power, but this strategy ultimately led to the downfall of his government and his own political career.

Meanwhile, the BJP successfully united caste-divided Hindus through temple politics and emerged as the dominant force. By combining nationalism with Hindutva, the BJP managed to defeat its opposition comprehensively.

As a result, the BJP has remained in power for over 11 years at the center and controls most state governments. The Congress's continued focus on caste politics is unlikely to hinder the BJP's momentum. With recent amendments to the Waqf Board strengthening BJP's stance on Hindutva and nationalism, the party is poised to gain even more support in the coming years.
