Budget is by the people, for the people: Sitharaman

A day after presenting the Union Budget, finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Sunday termed the Budget as "by the people, for the people, of the people". She also said Prime Minister fully supported the idea to cut taxes for the middle class.

"I think the prime minister put it succinctly, he said it's the people's Budget, it is the Budget which the people wanted... As they say in democracy in Abraham Lincoln's words, it is Budget by the people, of the people for the people," PTI quoted Sitharaman as saying.

The Union Budget 2024-25 provided major relief to the salaried class with no income tax on an average monthly income of up to Rs one lakh to boost household savings and consumption with the government also giving thrust to four engines of development - agriculture, MSMEs, investment and exports.
