Tributes to 'caring' man who died after explosion at Penzance flats

A MAN who died after an explosion and fire in a block of flats in Penzance has been named locally.

Stuart Cooper was a resident of one of the flats at Pendennis Place and sustained serious injuries which he did not survive.

Devon and Cornwall Police said the incident on Wednesday, April 23, involved a suspected gas explosion and subsequent fire which resulted in residents of the block being evacuated.

The Cornwall Fire and Rescue Service dealt with the incident and briefed a local councillor that a man had died.

Police later confirmed that a man in his forties lost his life.

Mr Cooper, a father of four, was taken to Derriford Hospital in Plymouth where he twice received CPR.

Due to the severity of his injuries, his niece Emily Jade Cooper took the decision to switch off his life support machine.
