Standard takes on FNB

Standard Bank is taking on FNB with new travel rewards and a luxury airport lounge offering, in the first real challenge by a competitor since Discovery.

It has launched in-app travel bookings, where qualifying account holders can get discounts of up to 40% on all domestic and international flights.

In addition it has opened two airport lounges, at OR Tambo International and Lanseria, with access to Bidvest and global partner lounges based on the credit card you hold.

To qualify for the flight discounts, you have to be on at least “Tier Level” 3 of its UCount Rewards programme and meet the minimum credit card spending thresholds in the month prior to booking.

The maximum discount of 40% off the base fare (excluding taxes) is only achievable on the World Citizen Credit Card.

This card is bundled with the bank’s top-end Signature Banking account in its private banking offering, with a monthly income requirement of R92000.

The monthly fee on the account is R580.
