LOC Needs Government for CWC to Be a Success
The Citizen
|August 22, 2025
With much of the focus revolving around boosting tourism and building the tournament's long-term legacy, full support will be required from government in order for the 2027 Cricket World Cup to be a success, according to local organising committee (LOC) chairperson Trevor Manuel.
A former Minister of Finance under three consecutive Presidents, Manuel was announced as the chairperson yesterday of a 15-member LOC board revealed for the quadrennial tournament.
"The success of the Cricket World Cup will largely be because national government can bring all three spheres of government into play. It's fundamentally important," he said.
Manuel believed it was crucial to think beyond the tournament, and various public sector institutions would be needed to ensure visitors to the country would return in future.
