Are we delivering on Madiba's vision?

Last Thursday, the Nelson Mandela Children's Fund marked its 30th anniversary at a commemorative event in Sandton.

- Nancy Dusani

Are we delivering on Madiba's vision?

The evening was intended not only to celebrate a remarkable legacy, but also to reflect on a promise that began three decades ago.

The organisation itself was born from Nelson Mandela's deep conviction that the moral measure of a society lies in how it treats its children. In 1995, shortly after becoming South Africa's first democratically elected president, Mandela donated a third of his presidential salary to establish the fund.

It was a symbolic gesture, but also a powerful statement that the well-being of children should stand at the centre of South Africa's national priorities.
