Women marching for safer streets

'IT'S A SHOW OF STRENGTH' - NORTH EAST MAYOR
WOMEN and girls are to take to the streets for an annual protest against male violence.
This year’s Reclaim the Night march will begin in Newcastle tomorrow.
Held every year as part of the global movement, the march and rally is expected to bring hundreds together in the fight against misogyny.
Organisers say this year’s event is particularly important at a time when some groups are attempting to place blame on migrants and Muslim communities.
Speakers at the event will include North East Mayor Kim McGuinness, Northumbria Police and Crime Commissioner Susan Dungworth and abuse survivor and service user Rama Dontoni, from the Angelou Centre in Newcastle.
Rama said: "We can all experience domestic abuse. For migrant women, it's often mixed with uncertainty around our immigration status, money worries and feeling treated as less than others.
