WARNINGS for snow and ice have been issued for the North East amid dropping temperatures this week.

- By SONIA SHARMA

According to the Met Office, outbreaks of rain and hill snow, falling on subzero surfaces, could lead to some icy conditions this morning.

A yellow weather warning for ice runs from 5am to midday today, covering Durham and Northumberland. People are being warned to expect icy patches on some untreated roads, pavements and cycle paths.

This has been followed by another yellow warning for snow and ice covering the whole of the North East, from 6am tomorrow (Wednesday, November 19), to 6pm on Thursday. This means “snow showers may lead to disruption” across the region. It comes as weather maps have been predicting that the first snowfall of the year will hit the region this week.
