Three arrests after suspected armed disturbance in street

FAMILIES have told of their fears after three people were hurt in an alleged armed disturbance outside their homes.

People living on Prudhoe Street in North Shields town centre watched on in horror as armed police and ambulances arrived after the incident was reported on Tuesday night.

Police say two men and a woman were injured in the incident, with one man suffering injuries officers described as being "consistent with having been caused by a bladed article".

All three have since been arrested and are still being questioned in police custody.

People living nearby told The Chronicle that they heard arguments outside their homes before emergency services arrived.

And one shocked mum said she returned home with her young son to find paramedics and armed police outside.

Christine Hardy, 41, said: "There was two ambulances and a lot of police cars and armed police. I was coming along the road and they wouldn't let us in.

"It was scary, but my son was just fascinated by the guns and police cars. We have only been here a year, but we have seen a canny bit.
