A STUDENT midwife from Newcastle is hoping to inspire others to ‘step out of their comfort zone’ after reaching the semifinal of the prestigious Miss England competition.
Laura Alcantara Turner is representing both her community and raising awareness for youth mental health.
If Laura were to win the competition, she believes this would be the first time ever siblings have held Mr and Miss titles in the same period, adding: “We're both incredibly honoured to represent our region on the national stage.”
Laura’s brother, Manuel Alcantara Turner, who serves as a King’s Guard, is the current Mr England, and even trav-elled to Vietnam to compete in Mr World competition.
The siblings who were born in Spain, moved to the North East in 2010 when Laura was only six years old.
Ahead of the November semifinals held in Wolverhampton, the 20-year-old has been sharing her experience so far: “It’s a journey I’m incredibly proud of, especially as someone born in Spain and now studying Midwifery at university after working in local care homes”
Laura decided to enter the competition for the first time to try something “out of her comfort zone,’ and use the platform to raise awareness fc uses she cares deeply about, adding: “I've seen my brother do the same thing and he’s never done anything like that before and he managed to even win it.
