Statue full of sentimental value taken off daughter's grave

Abbie Huscroft visited Saltwell Cemetery on May 30 to pay her respects on what would have been her eldest daughter's 16th birthday.

But when she arrived with a balloon and flowers to place at Kaysia's graveside she noticed that her concrete statue of a little girl holding a teddy bear was missing.

The 2ft statue, which was painted white, has been placed at the site for almost 15 years and was purchased by Abbie's mum, who has since passed away.

Abbie said: "I went up on the 30th for what would have been my eldest daughter's 16th birthday to put balloons and flowers down and I realised that her statue which has been there for almost 15 years was gone, it had been stolen."

The 32-year-old, from Birtley, added: "The chances of me ever getting this statue back are very slim. My mam bought it about 15 years ago and now she's passed away so the sentimental value of it is really high.

"When it got stolen I thought this is the final straw, something has to be done about it."
