Nothing sustainable about the profit rules
The Chronicle
|September 08, 2025
CALL it what you will.
-
Financial Fair Play - the most ludicrous handle of them all - Profitability and Sustainability Rules, which is how the Premier League label it, or the Financial Sustainability Regulations of UEFA.
Whatever, I have another phrase to sum up football's killer straitjacket: not fit for purpose.
I mean, apart from all the other side effects we know only too well, any rule that forces a club to sell it's homegrown academy kids just to please authority and its so-called ‘fair play’ is shameful.
It's inevitably the local lads who are put up for auction, because they represent 100 per cent profit.
