'No misconduct' found as police review A1 crash

NORTHUMBRIA Police are reviewing the circumstances of a “catastrophic” dual carriageway collision which left seven officers injured but say no misconduct has been identified.

The crash was caused by Mazyar Azarbonyad, who sparked a high-speed pursuit at more than 120mph on a first date then slammed the brakes on in the middle of the A1 in a dangerous emergency stop.

While most of the specialist tactical pursuit drivers brought their vehicles to a halt alongside Azarbonyad's BMW without major incident, the final pursuing car smashed into the stationary vehicles after failing to stop in time.
