NEWCASTLE simply don’t do draws. They usually win, but if they don’t, then they lose. However, a point at the Amex Stadium was both precious and priceless.

Magpies draw hope from parity at Amex

United had gone 27 matches in all competitions - dating back to December 4 last year (3-3 against Liverpool) - since they last shared the spoils. But don’t try to tell me the Mags were lucky because it took a penalty a minute from the end of normal time to bring parity.

They more than deserved what came their way, dominating on possession if not at their lethal best.

And it turned out to be a huge point, keeping them firmly in a Champions League place with two colossal matches coming up, against Chelsea and Arsenal.

A second successive away defeat and two setbacks in their last three PL fixtures would have been demoralising with what lies immediately ahead.
