ABUSER WHO STABBED HIS PARTNER 29 TIMES AND LEFT HER FOR DEAD DIED WHILE SERVING HIS JAIL SENTENCE

'It's a relief he can't do it to another woman'

Martina Turner was stabbed 29 times and left for dead

STABBED 29 times and left for dead by her abusive partner, Martina Turner has today told of her relief that he can never hurt her again.

Steven Wood was jailed for a minimum of 12 years for attempting to murder Martina, who is known as Tina, at the home they shared in Winlaton Mill, Gateshead, four years ago.

The Chronicle revealed last week that Wood, who was being held at HMP Frankland, had died.

And today Tina, has told of her feelings at learning he was gone, as she lifts the lid on the ongoing torment victims of domestic violence are left with.

The 57-year-old said: “To be honest it was a big relief. For anybody who has been a victim of domestic violence they know their partner could get back into their lives - there was always that fear.

“It’s a relief he’s not there anymore. It's not over for the victim when their abuser goes to jail.”

Mum-of-three Tina was lucky to survive after Wood turned on her in her kitchen two years after the couple met online.
