'If someone's life was saved it would mean more than anything'
The Chronicle
|July 31, 2025
A LIFESAVING bleed kit is set to be installed close to where teenager Gordon Gault was fatally stabbed with a machete.

Newcastle City Council agreed to pay for the vital piece of equipment following a request from Gordon's mum, Dionne Barrett.
The 14-year-old died in hospital six days after he was struck in the arm with the huge blade, near Elswick Park in Newcastle's West End in November 2022.
Passersby desperately tried to save Gordon after he collapsed in the street, using just their clothing in a bid to try to stop the bleeding.
And Dionne believes it's possible her son could have survived had those trying to give him first aid had the right equipment.
Now Newcastle City Council has agreed to pay for a special outdoor bleed kit, which is set to be positioned on Elswick Road.
Like specialised first aid kits, the boxes give people on the scene of a stabbing or incident where someone is bleeding heavily the equipment they need to help before emergency services arrive.
Dionne is now awaiting delivery of the kit, which will have a picture of Gordon on it.
And now she has told of her pride that Gordon's legacy could save lives.
The 39-year-old said: "We can't get Gordon back, but this kit can be used to save someone else in the future.
