EXTRA POLICE AS GROUPS GATHERED NEAR CITY CENTRE HOTEL
The Chronicle
|August 11, 2025
ONE person was arrested after a protest in Newcastle city centre on Saturday.
Northumbria Police ensured that it had an increased presence in the city due to the planned action near a hotel that has housed asylum seekers.
Both a protest and counter protest over the UK's asylum policy took place with officers working to keep the rival groups apart. This was the second consecutive week of protests. However there were fewer people in the area than were at the previous weekend’s gathering.
