'Endurance' test for life-saving charity

VOLUNTEERS STAY AT BEACH FOR HOURS AS MAN IS RESCUED FROM YACHT
A LIFE-saving charity attended one of its “longest incidents in history” after a man was rescued from a boat in Tynemouth.
Members of the Tynemouth Volunteer Life Brigade (TVLB) were called to King Edward's Bay at around 8pm on Wednesday to reports a boat had ran aground.
The incident sparked a huge emergency response with Tynemouth and Cullercoats RNLI teams, the coastguard, Northumbria Police, the Army bomb squad, and North East Ambulance Service all in attendance. A man showing 'significant signs of fatigue' was rescued from the boat and transferred to Northumbria Specialist Emergency Care Hospital by paramedics.
