PAIR SAVED HIS LIFE PERFORMING CPR AFTER HE HAD A CARDIAC ARREST

Dad says thanks to two heroic football coaches

North Shields dad and cardiac arrest survivor Simon Brown

A NORTH Shields dad thanks a pair of heroic fellow football coaches for saving his life - and giving him the chance to see his children grow up. Simon Brown, 62, had a cardiac arrest in December 2017.

He was coaching his son Ethan's North Shields Juniors side. Ethan ran over, and called for help. And fellow coaches Stu Proctor and Paul Geddes jumped into action, carrying out CPR - cardiopulmonary resuscitation.

Unlike 90% of cardiac arrest patients, Simon survived. Now, almost a decade on, he has spoken of the life he has been able to live since - and why it is vital that as many people as possible know how to give CPR, know where their nearest defibrillator is, and know how heart screening works.

Simon told The Chronicle: "I'm doing pretty well. It's as simple as that - I have just been able to live a normal life since the cardiac arrest.

"I have been looked after really well by the NHS, I get regular check ups and have been able to watch my family grow up.
