Cannabis 'shatter' equipment seized

Around £120,000 worth of industrial equipment believed to be used in the production of cannabis 'shatter' has been uncovered at one premises in South Tyneside

AROUND £120,000 worth of industrial equipment believed to be used in the production of cannabis 'shatter' has been uncovered at one North East premises.

In a week which marked one year since a 'shatter' lab caused a fatal explosion in Newcastle, officers visited a South Tyneside premises suspected to have supplied industrial equipment to another lab.

Three people have been arrested after a lab was discovered in the Houghton-le-Spring area in May.

And intelligence led officers to the Bensham Street area of Boldon Colliery, where a significant amount of apparatus was discovered.

Northumbria Police, the North East Regional Organised Crime Unit's (NEROCU) Disruption Team and Government Agency Intelligence Network Coordinator, and South Tyneside Council's Trading Standards Team worked together to coordinate the visit.

Trading Standards officers used their powers to enter and inspect the premises.
