Bridge closed for installation of sign for Great North Run

THE Tyne Bridge is closed for five evenings this week for the installation of the Great North Run sign.

While the city gears up for this weekend's Great North 10k, preparations are also stepping up a pace for the main event.
The sign on the bridge is always a big part of the build-up to the Great North Run which once again will see around 60,000 in action when the world-famous half-marathon returns on September 7.
Work on the installation required the Tyne Bridge to close to drivers from Sunday night so the sign can be in place by the time the Great North 10k weekend's two days of sport begins on Saturday.
