Behind the scenes at top hospital's fight to beat cancer

EXPERTS at the Freeman Hospital in Newcastle are pushing to raise awareness around lifesaving radiotherapy which plays a key role in many cancer treatments.

The Chronicle was invited to see how the service is offered at the Freeman Hospital - and even saw patient Holly Stubbs prepare for her eleventh treatment.

Speaking on World Radiotherapy Awareness Day, mum-of-three Holly and senior therapeutic radiographer Sophie Taylor highlighted what goes on behind the - giant, lead-lined - door of the radiotherapy suite. Holly is partway through an intensive 30-treatment course of therapy to treat tongue cancer which spread to her lymph nodes.
