NEWCASTLE United have money to spend this summer, but that doesn't mean they can afford to ignore a bargain when it comes their way.

With the ever-looming presence of financial fair play and profit and sustainability rules, every club must look for maximum value on each deal.

It's particularly relevant at this time of year when those whose contracts were due to expire officially become free agents. June 30 saw contracts end throughout football, with some big name players no longer attached to clubs.

Newcastle have been linked to several, although are not thought to be close to a deal with any in particular as Eddie Howe and the recruitment team cast their net.

Wages are always a consideration, with some players demanding huge pay packets which would still make any deal an expensive one, despite the lack of a transfer fee. However, he are five options they may consider.
