Tripura expands palm oil cultivation to 7,000 hectares

In a strategic move toward agricultural expansion, the Tripura government has set an ambitious target of cultivating 7000 hectares of land for palm oil by the financial year 2026-27, according to a statement by Agriculture Minister Ratan Lal Nath.

As of now, palm oil plants are cultivated on a mere 56.35 hectares of land in the northeastern state. To bolster this cultivation initiative, the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) and the Indian Institute of Oil Palm Research conducted digital mapping in 2020, identifying approximately 1,46,364 hectares of land suitable for palm oil cultivation in the state.
