Marital discord: Man ends 43-year marriage, sells land for Rs 3 cr to pay alimony

A 70-year-old couple from Karnal, Haryana, has officially divorced after 43 years of marriage, following the intervention of the Mediation and Conciliation Centre of the Punjab and Haryana High Court.
The couple, who married on August 27, 1980, under Hindu customs, faced marital difficulties over the years.
They have two daughters and a son, and their relationship began to deteriorate, leading them to live separately from May 8, 2006.
In 2013, the husband sought a divorce in the Karnal court, but his petition was rejected.
He later appealed to the Punjab and Haryana High Court.
