Leh DM justifies Sonam Wangchuk’s NSA detention in Supreme Court

The Leh District Magistrate has defended the detention of climate activist Sonam Wangchuk under the National Security Act (NSA), telling the Supreme Court that the activist had indulged in “activities prejudicial to the security of the state, maintenance of public order, and essential services.”

“The detention order was passed after duly considering the material placed before me and arriving at subjective satisfaction that Sonam Wangchuk had been indulging in activities prejudicial to the security of the State and maintenance of public order,” the Leh DM said in the affidavit. “I was satisfied and continue to be satisfied of the detention of the detenue,” the officer added.
