Minister of State (MOS) for Exter-nal Affairs, Raj-kumar Ranjan Singh, has underlined India's unique and longstanding relationship with the United Nations Commission on International Trade Law (UNCITRAL).
Since its inception, India has been a steadfast member of UNCITRAL, a testament to the nation's commitment to international trade law and dispute resolution. This reaffirmation of India's partnership with UNCITRAL was articulated during the 2023 UNCITRAL South Asia Conference, a significant event jointly organized by the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), UNCITRAL, and the UNCITRAL National Coordination Committee for India (UNCCI). The inauguration of this conference was presided over by Chief Justice of India, Justice DY Chandrachud.
The Ministry of External Affairs, in an official press release, described this three-day conference as a continuation of the event hosted in New Delhi back in 2016. The 2016 conference was a commemoration of the 50th anniversary of UNCITRAL and served as a platform to strengthen India's engagement with UNCITRAL. It aimed to foster interaction between UNCITRAL, the judiciary, bureaucracy, academia, and the legal fraternity, reflecting India's dedication to enhancing international trade and dispute resolution mechanisms.
